Piscina & Wellness Barcelona 2023 prepares the most international edition in its history

With more exhibitors, more space and record-breaking internationality, Piscina & Wellness Barcelona continues to grow and beat all forecasts. The leading event in Spain and a European benchmark in the industry has almost doubled the figures of its previous edition, with 300 confirmed exhibiting companies and 40,000 m2 of gross floor space. In addition, the strong increase in international participation is outstanding, which now accounts for 68% of the total offer with firms from up to 26 countries.

Organised by Fira de Barcelona with the support of the Spanish swimming pool industry association ASOFAP, Piscina & Wellness Barcelona will bring together, from 27 to 30 November at the Gran Via venue, the entire value chain of the swimming pool product for residential and public use, as well as facilities, equipment and accessories related to wellness, spa, fitness and outdoor decor. This year the solutions for a sustainable, connected and more experiential swimming pool will be the highlight of the show.

In the commercial offer of the show, the internationality of the exhibitors reaches 68%, which is up 8 points from 2021, the highest share in the history of the show, established in 1994. International companies from 26 countries, including China, France, Turkey, Italy, the Netherlands, the USA, the UK, Germany, Belgium, Portugal, Canada, Israel and the Czech Republic, will be exhibiting.

The President of the show’s Organising Committee, Eloi Planes, is pleased with this growth “which confirms Piscina & Wellness Barcelona as the most international event on the sector’s European tradeshow calendar and underlines the interest awakened by the Spanish market, with the second largest swimming pool park in Europe and the fourth largest in the world, which is increasingly receptive to adopting solutions and technologies that improve sustainability, ease maintenance and increase the comfort of users.”

Ángel Celorrio, director of Piscina Wellness Barcelona, said: “The attendance figures achieved so far, which could still increase until the event opens, make the event one of the best in the last ten years, in line with the good performance of the industry, which is one of the most dynamic in the Spanish economy and firmly committed to sustainability.

So far, within the show’s range of products, the most representative segments are wellness, purification, physical and chemical water treatment, coatings and ornamentation, swimming pool builders, swimming pool white goods, pumps and installation accessories. Also important are the companies of covers, lighting, measurement and control equipment, prefabricated vessels, air conditioning and safety, among others.

    A strong industry

The swimming pool industry provides products and services for both new construction and the refurbishment and maintenance of the more than 1.3 million swimming pools in Spain, as well as for wellness centres and other aquatic facilities.

The good results in the first half of the year mean that the Spanish swimming pool industry is expected to grow by 3% in 2023, according to ASOFAP’s Sector Barometer. This percentage indicates a normalisation of turnover after the exceptional boost in demand experienced during the pandemic. Currently, the Spanish market is showing dynamism in public swimming pools and pools for collective use, with an increase in investment by sports complexes and tourist accommodation to renovate and technologically equip the swimming pools and wellness areas of their establishments. In the residential sector, there is a growing demand for products that help pool maintenance and sustainability, such as salt electrolysis equipment, dosing and control systems, heat pumps and covers, among others.

    Innovation, challenges and solutions

The innovative efforts of the sector, in its commitment to more sustainable, efficient and customised solutions and technologies, focused on optimising the use of water and energy and improving the quality of life of users, will be reflected in the new products that will be showcased at the event. The most innovative and disruptive items can be seen in the Innovation Zone, a space that will be set up by the show and in which exhibitors will be able to highlight their best solutions. Energy savings and the reduction of water consumption, the impact of digitalisation and connectivity on pool maintenance, the importance of architectural design and the creation of healthy, leisure and wellness experiences are all trendsetting.

For its part, the Wellness Experience, a fully operational wellness centre, will be reopened and will showcase the latest equipment, products and specific solutions for this type of establishment. Another highlight will be the “Outdoor Living Experience”, dedicated to the latest trends in outdoor design to convert the open-air area that usually surrounds swimming pools into a welcoming and relaxing space, dedicated to promoting wellness, health and sociability.

Lastly, the show will hold a gala dinner bringing together the main actors in the industry and will be the setting for the Piscina & Wellness Barcelona Awards for the most sustainable and innovative products at the show, the Wellness Experience Awards for the best Iberian and European spas, spas and thalassotherapy centres, and the International Architecture Competition for students. All these awards project the values of innovation in the swimming pool sector, rounding off an edition that is shaping up to be one of the busiest and most representative of the Barcelona event.
