    An architect dedicated to hotel interior design, Stephany Haro is Head of projects for Marriott International in Latin America. Her experience gives her a holistic view from the perspective of major global hotel corporations. We talk to her about wellness spaces and the changes she has observed in the industry since the last edition of the exhibition in 2019.

    • As the design manager for Latin America and the Caribbean at Marriott International, how is the design of wellness spaces being approached? How important are water facilities?

    Water facilities have always been of great importance for the leisure segment. There are projects such as city spas as well as the development of pools and spas in resorts. It is always a challenge and a thrill to propose something new and with a level of design that generates a unique experience for the guest. Water features for children have also been emphasized lately, especially in all-inclusive projects.

    • Do you see significant differences in designing wellness spaces among different hotel complexes? How are they approached in the case of Marriott International?

    There are differences depending on the type of project. When we talk about resorts and all-inclusive, we will necessarily have the support of a specialist in spas and wellness centers. For smaller projects, we might develop them with architects and consult with a specialist.

    • As a professional, you are familiar with the Latin America, Caribbean, Europe, and Middle East Business Meeting, having participated in the previous edition. What changes would you highlight in the industry since then?

    Indeed, I had the opportunity to participate in 2019, and after the pandemic, I think we are returning to the previous pace. Knowing the availability of professionals, materials, equipment, and solutions for our wellness projects allows us to approach and develop these spaces more easily. Another important aspect is the change in the type of client in these spaces. Before the pandemic, we found two types of clients: those traveling for work and those traveling for pleasure. Currently, both profiles have merged, leading to an increased demand for wellness experiences in business travel. With all this, we always have to offer the client additional value.

    • Speaking in terms of sustainability, do you perceive a real interest from entrepreneurs and key players in the sector to apply sustainable criteria?

    Lately, there is greater awareness when it comes to proposing projects that are environmentally friendly, but there is still much to develop, learn, and implement.

    • In the previous edition, we talked about positive forecasts in Latin America for the wellness sector, with a hotel boom in Peru and significant growth in this area. Have growth expectations been met?

    Not yet due to the crisis caused by the pandemic and the political situation. However, projects are resuming with a positive outlook towards 2024.

    • What do you expect to gain from your visit and participation in the upcoming Latin America, Caribbean, Europe, and Middle East Business Meeting?

    Meeting colleagues, friends, and specialists is always refreshing, and getting to know new solutions, inspiration, and partners for new projects is always a pleasure.
